Sr. Director Workplace Initiatives

Itasca, IL

Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree required, preferably in safety, engineering or the chemical/physical sciences. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Significant knowledge of occupational safety and relevant experience in business, academia, government, nonprofit sector, operations management or managing a leading-edge safety program.
  • Minimum 10 years work experience in occupational safety and health.
  • Strong interpersonal communications skills and ability to influence business leaders and government officials.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the National Safety Council's strategic initiatives for workplace safety. Identify the most significant occupational safety issues requiring the Council's attention. Monitor leading-edge indicators, identify emerging trends and act to bring these issues to the attention of NSC management and staff. Develop and implement strategies, including recommendations of new public policies, for the NSC to address significant issues. Build consensus among NSC staff, its volunteer boards and members to execute the strategies and enact the policies.
  • Document the best practices associated with prevention of the leading causes of occupational injuries and deaths. Lead the development of best practice content and work with other NSC staff groups to deliver the content to NSC members, training centers, instructors and others.
  • Expand public and member awareness and understanding of the hazards and risks associated with occupational safety. Work with other NSC staff groups to expand public awareness of the issues and effective strategies to reduce workplace injuries and deaths.
  • Develop and implement strategies to obtain broad public acceptance of NSC-recommended solutions and best practices.
  • Develop and execute strategies to influence Federal legislation and Federal agency regulations and directives related to occupational safety. Serve as the Council's principal leadership contact with the Department of Labor, Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the Mine Safety and Health Administration. In cooperation with NSC staff responsible for government affairs and volunteers, develop and execute strategies to mobilize volunteers and influence legislative votes or agency action on the issues.
  • Develop a strategy to make the National Safety Council world class in its own safety and health management. Ensure excellence in all aspects of the Council's safety system. Serve as co-leader of the NSC internal Safety Committee.

Instructor Coordinator Syracuse

Syracuse, NY

Requirements:

  • High school graduate required, college or business school preferred.
  • Two or more years experience in a general office environment is required.
  • Previous experience in customer service is preferred.
  • Accounting experience desirable.
  • Good oral and written communication skills, problem solving ability, good math skills and accuracy desired.
  • Ability to plan and organize work and analytical ability a must.
  • Experience in computer operations and attention for detail.

Responsibilities:

  • Reviews completed instructor applications and resumes to determine eligibility; sends employment packets to Human Resources; sends welcome packet to instructors.
  • Initiates instructor renewal process; updates renewal information in the computer system; updates files to assure prompt and accurate delivery of subscriptions.
  • Reviews instructor availability calendars and assigns instructors to classes. Prepares instructor notifications of proposed schedules and creates monthly tracking calendar.
  • Schedules instructor development courses as needed; grades final tests; determines eligibility for certification. Attends instructor development courses and continuing education seminars as needed.
  • Audits class completion records for accuracy; enters completion records into computer; updates records.
  • Maintains records of class activity, prepares monthly program activity report, updates annual report. Prints class rosters, maintains staff activity calendars.
  • Answers telephones, screens and routes calls, provides program information, researches and resolves enrollment and completion problems, registers motorists with credit card payments. Communicates with customers, state agencies and instructors on a variety of matters, resolves customer problems.
